In the Lions’ Den

by

One of the very inspiring stories in the Bible is the story of Daniel in the lions’ den. Here was a man who had been faithfully serving God, being thrown into a den of lions! What fate could have been worse than that?

If ever a man had a right to complain, whine, despair, hate, certainly Daniel did. Yet, what did Daniel do in that evil hour? He did what he had always done, he prayed, and trusted his God without one moment of doubt.

Mrs. Eddy states in Science and Health, “Understanding the control which Love held over all, Daniel felt safe in the lions’ den.” What an important point! Daniel didn’t think, “Well, Love controls me. I’m such a good man. But Love certainly doesn’t seem to control anyone else! Look at those evil conspirators, and those ferocious lions! They are out to kill me and without even a cause!” Thinking those negative thoughts would have been fatal!

Daniel, however, trusted with all his heart that God loved him, and this Love was in total control of the lions, as well as in control of his so-called enemies. His loving faith in God, and in the fact that God’s creation is good, delivered Daniel from the jaws of the lions. The story ends with Daniel’s stirring words to the King, “My God hath sent His angel and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before Him innocency was found in me.” (Daniel)

What lion’s den have you found yourself in? An unhealable disease, family disunity, a hateful enemy, an unjust boss, etc.? Think about this lesson. Despite the wrong picture, no matter how bad or unjust it may seem, remember God’s loving control over all. This Truth is your deliverer, an angel message from God. If it could deliver a man from a den of lions, it certainly can, and will, deliver you!
