Praying for Your Children
by Mary Beth Singleterry
In today’s world, raising children can be a bit challenging! There really can be no greater gift, no more important education, than to keep your child grounded in the truth of knowing He belongs to God, and that God has a good and happy plan for his life. I am very grateful for the loving help I received from a practitioner in regard to raising children. One of the most valuable things I learned was the importance of prayer. It is so important to pray for your children, whether they are 2 years of age or 22! We can pray, knowing God is present in their lives and is working powerfully on their behalf. The Bible assures us that “I (God) will pour My spirit upon thy seed, and My blessing upon thine offspring.” (Isa.) How often do we really take the time to think about this wonderful promise? God is pouring out His spirit on your children and blessing them beyond measure!
Our teacher once gave me a wonderful quote from Bicknell Young’s 1937 College, and asked me to pray with it daily: “A divine idea carries within itself the power to accomplish the divine purpose, and the responsibility of its unfoldment belongs to divine Principle, Who cares for each detail of its progressive being.” Your child is a divine idea whom God loves and cares for. Everything your child needs for his unfoldment is already established in Mind. Perhaps most comforting, the responsibility for your child’s development belongs to God. He is and will care for every single detail. Isn’t that wonderful to know?
Remember the verse in Isaiah, “the angel of His presence saved them: in His love and in His pity He redeemed them; and He bare them, and carried them all the days of old.” God’s angels are constantly guarding and guiding all those we love. So, no matter what age your children are, releasing them into God’s care through the power of prayer will bring blessings into their lives beyond measure!
