Sons and Daughters of the King
by Mary Beth Singleterry
There is an old fable told about an infant prince who was abducted and raised by gypsies. Years later, the grown prince found out who he really was, the son of a King, and therefore entitled to a noble and rich inheritance. He joyfully returned home to his kingdom and claimed all that was rightfully his.
This story can be likened to our own lives. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy states, “both man and woman proceed from God and are His eternal children, belonging to no lesser parent.” Are we not all then sons and daughters of the “King,” entitled to all the good that God has to bestow on His beloved children? It is only through false education we would come to think otherwise.
Suppose one is struggling with the belief that he has a bad disposition because it runs in his family. By claiming God as his Father-Mother, he can express the spiritual qualities of joy, affection, loving-kindness, strength, courage, which are natural to God’s idea. These qualities include all good, and are inherent in man.
Mrs. Eddy says, “In proportion as the law of Truth is understood and accepted, it obtains in the personality as well as character.” (C. S. Series May 1, 1889) Understand, and then accept this law of God, that you are truly the son or daughter of the King, subject to only good and “belonging to no lesser parent.” This simple truth can heal every unpleasant belief of heredity, whether it calls itself disease, overweight, acne, poverty, dysfunctional situations, etc.
Applying this Truth to your daily life, will bring about a transformation. “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons (and daughters) of God
