The Little Blessings of Life
by Benjamin Ndukwe
I am very grateful for the experience that I had recently of one of the little blessings of life.
Recently my wife and I went pumpkin and apple picking with our kids and their friend. It was our first time doing something like this, and we had a wonderful time. When we came home the kids happily decorated their pumpkins and placed them outside the front door.
But the following Sunday afternoon, as we arrived home from church, we saw that the pumpkins had been eaten by some wildlife. My daughter thought it was the rabbits, while her brother argued it was the squirrel. I thought it was the deer because only the deer could break pumpkins that big. Nevertheless, they were very upset and wanted another pumpkin. I let them know that I understood why they were upset and made a promise to go with them to pick up some pumpkins. It made them happy, knowing they're getting another pumpkin. But I had already agreed to drop off a church member at her house after lunch, a distance away.
During the drive to her house, we had conversations about different topics, including the kids, but I didn’t mention the pumpkins. But God had a plan and it had already been provided. As we were getting closer to her house, I noticed she was sending a text message. Afterwards she said that she had just sent a text to her husband asking him to put some pumpkins in the goodie bags she had arranged for the kids. Her kindness was God’s answer to my children’s prayers.
All our needs are known to God. Just like Mrs. Eddy said in Science and Health, “Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need.” When I came home, the kids couldn’t believe their eyes, more pumpkins! I am very grateful to God for what He is doing in their lives.
This experience also was another opportunity for me to reflect on God’s love for us all and how He never fails in all His promises. And as the holidays approach, it is important that we take the time to remember all of God’s children everywhere; knowing that no one is outside of God’s love and care, and that He always will meet everyone’s needs accordingly. I am very grateful to Mary Baker Eddy for her revelation of Christian Science that has opened my understanding of the knowledge of God and the divine Principle that is in operation in our lives, and everywhere.
