Talking With God

by

When I first arrived in Plainfield a few years ago, I remember that I was easily distracted by just about every thought that came into my consciousness. As a result, while I thought I could multitask very well, I found myself not finishing things that needed to be done on time, and otherwise not really well focused. It was a bit of a problem for me for quite a while. But a practitioner in this church told me one day to take several breaks during the day out of whatever I was doing, and pray — talk to God, talk to Him like a friend. The practitioner said to ask God, “How am I doing? Is there anyone who needs my help? What should I be doing?” Then I needed to listen carefully, and make sure that I follow what He puts into my heart.

Well, I quickly learned what a valuable conversation you can have with God in just a very few minutes. And it has become a wonderful discipline ever since, of regularly praying to God. It has calmed me, it has given me a peace that I didn’t know before, and, in addition, it has made me more productive. I finish things that really do need to be finished, and I don’t get so easily distracted by things that don’t really need to be done. I think what I'm most grateful for is that it was the beginning of a serious and close relationship with God that I had not had. I learned to feel His love for me more closely, and I also lost that feeling of separation from God. Instead, I felt His nearness, and His closeness much better.

This has really given me a new life — a life that I am so very grateful for. I'm grateful for this kind of help that I was able to receive from our practitioner, and I'm also grateful to Mary Baker Eddy for discovering this Science. It really is a Science, because it works, and it unfailingly has the answer to every problem.
