Watching
by Jeremy Palmer
I often used to feel helpless and disturbed while watching the news, thinking how terrible some situation was and that there was nothing I could do about it. Since coming to Plainfield, I’ve been learning about Christian Science, and about right thinking and watching. Now when something disturbs me, I know I can pray about it, and ask God what is the truth about the situation. Then I do a watch about it.
I’m especially grateful for having been taught the importance of not skirting the issue while watching, but of actively going after the error and seeing it undone. My practitioner has many times said to me that watches need to have the clout that the correct statements of Truth bring — and that this church has in abundance, from the Bible, the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, and those of the early workers.
Because of all this, I feel I understand a little more each day what it means to have dominion, and what it means to live without fear. Additionally, if claims of fear or helplessness try to enter in, I now have five years of training in this Science, and a bookshelf full of tools to help me combat those claims. And, of course, practitioner support, which has been absolutely essential to the whole process from the day I arrived, right through today.
