Evil is Powerless and Nothingness
by Florence Roberts
One thing I have learned in this church is that, in healing, all that I am doing is realizing the present existence of perfection. God made us all well. There is absolutely nothing negative in our Father’s creation, hence nothing that is not good can be something to make us fear or to control us.
This realization has helped me to nickname challenges that come, “powerlessness and nothingness.” So, when I feel something not quite right, I know that it is powerlessness and nothingness knocking at the door of my thought. As we are learning, we must know that because of God’s allness, the challenges that come must be quickly seen as no-thingness. They are mere temptations, whether they appear as something physical, situational, or through someone. They come to deceive us into making realities of them and suffer under their so called laws. We have the clear confirmation of this when we read in Science and Health, page 563:7, “But why should we stand aghast at nothingness?”
Recently I had a sudden feeling of heaviness and tiredness, which I would have ordinarily given in to, but this time I saw it was “powerlessness and nothingness” knocking. I declared the truth about God’s powerful, Allness and Presence, and that this was a law unto myself. Soon I had the thought to write on the Forum on our website. I prayed for what would bless someone and went ahead and did that.
Soon I was rejoicing gratefully for all that God has done and continues to do. It was just as if a bright light came and destroyed even the smallest wrong thoughts and uplifted my thinking. I was left with nothing but joy.
I am so grateful for everything that I have learned since joining this church and for its genuine practice of Christian Science. This Science is wonderful, and when we stick to it we are rewarded. I cannot be grateful enough for God, Christ Jesus, and Mrs. Eddy and her message of salvation to the whole world.
This message of salvation is for all to wake up to the spiritual fact of God’s Allness. His first commandment in Exodus 20:3 states: “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” If we obey this law we continue to free ourselves. As Mrs. Eddy tells us in Science and Health, p. 517:31-4: “Man is not made to till the soil. His birthright is dominion, not subjection. He is lord of the belief in earth and heaven, — himself subordinate alone to his Maker. This is the Science of being. She further says in Science and Health, p. 442:30-32: “Christian Scientists, be a law to yourselves that mental malpractice cannot harm you either when asleep or when awake”!
