A Life of Purpose
by Mary Beth Singleterry
Recently I came across this wonderful quote from Bicknell Young: “What you have to give is of inestimable value.” Do you have any idea how important you are to God? I know when I first came to this church, one of my chief struggles was with feelings of worthlessness. You can imagine how happy I was to learn that God created each and every one of us for a good and holy purpose! There are no exceptions to this rule, no matter what our background, because first and foremost, we are all “sons (and daughters) of the living God”! (Hos.)
God has placed within us very unique talents and abilities. A well-known talk show host was once asked how she became so successful, and she replied, “I finally became good at being myself.” She then wisely gave the credit for this achievement to God. When we listen to the Father, He directs our path. He works through us to accomplish His divine plan; and His plan is always good, and brings great peace and fulfillment. Whatever our vocation or calling, when we are serving God, we are always in the business of blessing His creation.
In Miscellany, Mrs. Eddy clearly states, “Goodness never fails to receive its reward, for goodness makes life a blessing. Thus may each member of this church rise above the oft-repeated inquiry, What am I? to the scientific response: I am able to impart truth, health, and happiness, and this is my rock of salvation and my reason for existing.” Learn to be yourself as the good Lord made you, and you will find your life rich with His purpose!
