Excellent treatment regarding vaccination

A number of my students and several practitioners have called or written me concerning something that I, too, have been hearing — many Christian Scientists rushing out to get vaccinated, saying, this is the loving response to our neighbors’ fears.

This is nothing short of aggressive mental manipulation trying to pull Christian Scientists into supporting medicine in the name of “human love, sympathy and fear.” We must wake up and wake up our fellow workers. Ironically, I have a number of family and friends who are not Christian Scientists and who do not plan to get the vaccine. One statistic reports that over 51% of the country is refusing to take the vaccines because they are unnecessary and/or seriously questionable. Why this rush on the part of Christian Scientists to get vaccinated? Aggressive mental manipulation. Mrs. Eddy says 99 times in Science and Health and 113 times in Prose Works, Christian Science is “the only” means of healing and saving mankind.

There are THREE POINTS I I feel we need to be ready to respond with, whenever the vaccine question is raised, or even if it is not raised but should be, considering the mesmeric push or rush to get inoculated on the part of so many Christian Scientists:

1. IT IS NOT THE LAW! So Mrs. Eddy’s recommendation does not even apply here. Therefore, any Christian Scientist who voluntarily chooses to get the vaccine is publicly rejecting Christian Science and Mary Baker Eddy. They are also opening their thought to all the world beliefs about vaccines.

If it becomes the law, that means that we, as Christian Scientists, have failed in our “Watch” — we have failed to handle the serpent suggestion that error can make laws which circumvent God’s law and force God’s children to submit to false law. Mary Baker Eddy said, “To keep your watch doesn’t only mean to be awake at that hour and be working mentally. It means to do the work and succeed in breaking the mesmerism for the two hours assigned. If you don’t succeed, you haven’t kept your watch.” [WKMBE Vol, II, p. 450].

“We cannot depart from his holy example, — we cannot leave Christ for the schools which crucify him, and yet follow him in healing. Fidelity to his precepts and practice is the only passport to his power; and the pathway of goodness and greatness runs through the modes and methods of God. (Mis. 270:20)

2. THERE IS NOTHING LOVING ABOUT GETTING THE VACCINE It is a form of ignorant mental malpractice of our neighbors — seeing them as fearful and having a mind of their own which can reject God’s law. It also breaks the First Commandment by publicly supporting matter as a god with power to bring comfort and healing, which it can never do. It also condemns our neighbors to a life of suffering.

“[T]he sick are never really healed except by means of the divine power. Only the action of Truth, Life, and Love can give harmony. (SH 169:18)

3. A PRACTITIONER NEVER BEGINS WITH, “WHAT SHOULD WE DO IF OUR PRAYERS FAIL?” That is mesmerism. A student of Christian Science should never begin with a consideration of what material steps they would take if prayer does not work. That is mental malpractice. Mrs. Eddy stressed over and over again never to give in to that temptation because it denies the allness and supremacy of Spirit, and therefore breaks the First Commandment. The enemy, she said, reverses our prayers; but we should not join the enemy in reversing our own prayers!

“You render the divine law of healing obscure and void, when you weigh the human in the scale with the divine, or limit in any direction of thought the omnipresence and omnipotence of God.” (SH 445:15)

Both Christ Jesus and Mrs. Eddy warned that error would try to deceive us through family pressure. Jesus said, “Who are my mother and my brethren? It is they who do the will of God.” And he said you must be willing to lose family, if you want to save them. We never try to please people; we must only work to please God and follow Christ if we want to save our loved ones.

Of course, when those thoughts come to us, they are not our thoughts. It is the mental manipulation Mrs. Eddy warned her students repeatedly to handle. She says:

“Enemies of Christian Science were trying to reach the thought of Christian Scientists and she said she needed to wake them up to defend themselves. She said, ‘Students must take Science and Health and study it daily and thoroughly and abide steadfastly in the truth of that book. Enemies of Christian Science take certain portions of it to try to reverse them in the thoughts of the students.'” [WKMBE Vol. II, 216].

We must remain awake, alert and vigilant if we do not want to lose Christian Science for ourselves, our loved ones and the world. This is nothing less than aggressive mental manipulation and error’s attempt to destroy Christian Science. We must not fail in our Watch, by failing to handle this serpent. [Mrs. Eddy] says drugs can never heal; only divine Science heals.

The Longyear documentary, “The Onward and Upward Chain” which shows how the early workers responded to three deadly epidemics — not through sympathy and acquiescence to medicine, but rather through healing.

“It is Christian Science to do right, and nothing short of right-doing has any claim to the name.” (SH 448:28–30). “Neither sympathy nor society should ever tempt us to cherish error in any form, and certainly we should not be error’s advocate.” (SH 153:31).
